About Spain Cave Explorer
Helping travelers discover the hidden underground world beneath Spain since 2020.
Our Mission
Spain Cave Explorer was created with a simple goal: to make it easier for travelers to find, understand, and enjoy the incredible caves and grottos that Spain has to offer. With over 10,000 documented caves spread across the country, from the volcanic tubes of the Canary Islands to the painted chambers of Cantabria, Spain is one of the richest cave destinations in all of Europe.
Yet finding reliable, detailed, and up-to-date information about these sites can be surprisingly difficult. Official websites may only be available in Spanish, opening hours change seasonally, and practical details like parking, accessibility, and nearby attractions are often scattered across multiple sources.
That is where we come in. Our guides combine thorough research with firsthand experience to give you everything you need for a successful cave visit. We cover the geological and historical significance of each site, provide current visitor information including prices and opening hours, and offer practical tips that help you make the most of your time underground.
Our Values
Accuracy First
Every piece of information we publish is verified against official sources. We regularly update our guides to reflect changes in pricing, hours, and accessibility. If something changes, we want to be the first to let you know.
Conservation Awareness
Caves are fragile environments that took millions of years to form. We promote responsible tourism practices and always highlight the rules and guidelines that help protect these sites for future generations. We encourage visitors to follow marked paths, avoid touching formations, and respect photography restrictions.
Practical Usefulness
We write for real travelers making real plans. That means including the details that matter: how to get there, where to park, what to wear, and how to avoid long queues. Every guide is designed to be genuinely helpful, not just informative.
Independent Voice
Spain Cave Explorer is not affiliated with any cave operator, tour company, or tourism board. Our recommendations are based entirely on research and visitor experience. We do not accept payment for favorable coverage, and we clearly label any sponsored content.
What We Cover
Our current guides focus on some of Spain's most popular and historically significant cave sites, including the Cuevas del Drach in Mallorca, the Caves of Nerja near Malaga, and the UNESCO-listed Cave of Altamira in Cantabria.
We are steadily expanding our coverage to include other remarkable sites such as:
- Cueva de los Verdes, a volcanic lava tube in Lanzarote
- Cuevas del Aguila in Avila, central Spain
- Cuevas de Zugarramurdi, the "witches' cave" in Navarre
- Cueva de El Soplao in Cantabria, known for its rare helictite formations
- Cova Tallada, a sea cave on the Costa Blanca
Each new guide undergoes the same rigorous research and verification process. If there is a cave you would like us to cover, we welcome suggestions through our contact page.
